Skeletitos

For Skeletitos, I designed the brand identity, crafted the editorial design for the books, led the social media strategy, and directed the art for the photoshoots that brought this project to life. Skeletitos draws inspiration from the vibrant traditions of Mexico’s Day of the Dead (Día de Los Muertos), a holiday that honors the memory of loved ones while reminding us of the fleeting, precious nature of life.

Through Skeletitos, we aimed to help kids learn how to tell time while instilling a sense of how valuable each hour truly is. The design and storytelling focus on showing that every moment matters, whether it's simple or extraordinary, inspiring children to live fully and with intention, just as the Día de Los Muertos reminds us to do.

This celebration, unique to Mexico yet cherished worldwide, blends humor, mysticism, and deep reverence for life and death, encouraging us to embrace every moment with style and grace.

The approach the illustrator Susie Jaramillo took for the illlustrations paid homage to the rustic black-and-white artistry of Mexican masters like Posada’s powerful woodcuts and Fernando Robles’ evocative etchings from his illustrated classic, "La Pulqueria." The visual identity captures the comical yet poignant spirit of these illustrations, reflecting the Mexican way of being intimately connected to the concept of death.
